HP StorageWorks MSL4048 Tape
Library firmware release notes
Firmware version 6.80
Fixed a case where a loading error was reported when a full-height tape drive was installed in an unsupported slot. The MSL4048 is designed to support four half-height tape drives in any of the four half-height drive bays, numbered 0 through 3 from the bottom up. The 4048 supports up to two full-height (FH) tape drives. FH tape drives are only supported in drive bays 0 and 2. Though it is physically possible to insert one FH into drive bay 1, this is not supported. Prior to the 6.80 release, if an FH drive is installed in bay 1, a loading error would be the only error reported by the Library after an attempt to insert a tape into the drive. Version 6.80 will issue an error condition if an FH drive is installed in bay 1. The RMI status reports “Invalid drive location” and the OCP displays “Full height drive installed in invalid location”. After power on, the OCP error LED is lit and the drive is disabled (not powered). The Library logs report this as a Warning and not as a Critical Error. The Warning error code is logged as follows:
error code 5E 01 09.04.30
14:14:50.05 LIB/ERR<80 5E 01 00 2B 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 FF 04 01 FF FF
FF 00 20 20 20 20 20 20 20 20 20 20 20 20 20 20 20 20 00 00 00 00 00
00 00 00 > IR: Illegal position for full height Drive
.
If issue is NOT resolved by upgrading firmware, the chassis should be replaced.
