Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 1989136.1 : T10000C - FSC 3F21. Problem in the Way a Drive Will Go Down Using 3.62.109 Code
In this Document
Oracle Confidential PARTNER - Available to partners (SUN). Applies to:StorageTek T10000C Tape Drive - Version All Versions and laterInformation in this document applies to any platform. “There is a new change that went into 3.62.109 T10KC drive microcode release which will allow the drive/s to internally monitor every tape mounted job for bursts of excessive servo off track events in the tape path. If any drive logs and detects “3” consecutive mounts in a row that experiences this SOT activity on three different volume serial numbers once the third job/tape completes and unloads the tape the drive will put itself into maintenance mode and will then need to be replaced (3F21 a new FSC will be logged in the drive). SymptomsProblem in the way the drive will go down when a 3F21 error occurs using 3.62.109 code. FSC3F21 ChangesCode has been upgraded to 3.62.109 (or higher) in a T10000C drive. CauseThere was a known problem in the way the drive will go down with 3.62.109 code and the tape (even though it is unloaded) will not be put away by the library. SolutionThe resolution to this situation is available on MOS and that version of code is 3.62.111. With this code, when a 3F21 is reported by the drive, the library will be able to put the tape away before the drive shuts itself down and there will be a 3F21 dump stored in the drive. This will then be the indication that the drive needs replaced. Do not ask the customer to reboot the drive when a 3F21 error occurs. The library Op Panel and SLConsole will now show the drive as RED and unavailable for any subsequent mount requests. Note: Engineering recommends all customer sites to upgrade the code to use the 3.62.111 code on any/all T10000C drives.
