Symptoms
On systems like Sun Fire V210, V240, V250 and V440, which have an Advanced Lights Out Manager (ALOM) system controller,
it is possible to communicate with the system controller by using the Solaris "scadm" utility.
On T1000, T2000, T5120, T5220, T5140, T5240 Servers, this utility seems not to be available.
Cause
- For the T1000 and T2000 Servers, the "scadm" utility has not been made available and there are no plans to implement it in the future.
- For the T5120, T5220, T5140, T5240 Servers, that run ILOM Firmware and provide just an ALOM compatibility shell, the
"scadm" utility won't be implemented.
Solution
Depending on the type of problem, please review the following documentation:
- if you wish to collect outputs from the ALOM manually or if you need to manage the ALOM, for example, to reboot it:
- To login to the ALOM
- on Sun Fire T1000 or T2000, please review the document: Establishing a connection to Sun Fire T1000 or T2000 System Controller (Doc ID 1009721.1)
- on T5120, T5220, T5140, T5240 Servers, please see:
Oracle Integrated Lights Out Manager (ILOM) 3.0: ALOM CMT Compatibility Shell (Click here)
- To gather outputs from the ALOM or manage the ALOM, please see:
Oracle Integrated Lights Out Manager (ILOM) 3.0: Comparing ILOM and ALOM CMT Command (Click here)
- if you wish to collect outputs by using the Solaris Explorer Data Collector
please review the document: Oracle Services Tools Bundle (STB) - RDA/Explorer, SNEEP, ACT (Doc ID 1153444.1)
- if you have lost the ALOM login, please review the documents:
How to reset the ALOM password on T1000 /T2000 servers and Sun Blade T6300 and Netra CT900/CP3060 (Doc ID 1012732.1)

- if you have trouble accessing the ALOM via the network management port, but you can access it via it's serial management port,
please review the document: ALOM network port unresponsive after network switch power cycle (Doc ID 1019594.1)
- if you have trouble accessing the ALOM via both, the network management port and the serial management port,
please properly shutdown the operating system and remove the power cables from the server's power supplies for at least 2 minutes.
Then, try again to log into the ALOM serially or via it's network management port.
