Symptoms

On a ZFS Storage Appliance the cluster Takeover/Failback times may be affected by running multiple Analytic Datasets.

Changes

Cause

Running Analytics datasets on OS8.5 .x or older will contribute to the takeover/failback times.

Refer to Bug 20275711 - Analytics can have a profound effect on import times in both takeover/failback

Solution

It is recommended to enable only the Analytic Dataset that are really required.

Also during the planned maintenance activity you can suspend the analytic datasets.

In OS8.6 and newer analytics are automatically suspended as part of the failback process.

Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance Administration Guide, Cluster Takeover and Failback
To minimize service downtime, statistics and datasets are not available during failback and takeover operations. Data is not collected, and any attempt to suspend or resume statistics is delayed until failback and takeover operations have completed and data collection automatically resumes.

To suspend/resume a dataset in analytics :

BUI: Analytics > Datasets
Then on the required dataset select the suspend/resume button.

CLI:
ZFSSA: analytics datasets> show
ZFSSA: analytics datasets > select dataset-005 set suspended=true (or set false to resume)

Please refer to :  1461959.1 - Sun Storage 7000 Unified Storage System: How to configure Analytics for dataset retention policies

Perform regular cleanups of the datasets that are not needed.

This will ensure that analytic datasets have minimal impact during takeover/failback operations.
