Symptoms

Running bdacheckcluster shows a fan hardware failure on one of the nodes of Oracle Big Data Appliance (BDA).

Running bdacheckhw on the BDA shows:

ERROR: Wrong fan 0 status : nr
INFO: Expected fan 0 status : ok

Note: This may also occur on other Engineered Systems as well such as Exadata.

Logging into the ILOM CLI  and trying  to clear the fault only clears it for a few seconds:

1. View the fault:

-> show faulty

2. Clear the fault:

-> set /SYS/MB/FM0 clear_fault_action=true

Cause

 This is caused by a faulty fan part.

Solution

The fan must be replaced. Open a service request to have the fan replaced by a field engineer.
