Symptoms

The customer upgraded a 7120 to Appliance Firmware version 2013.1.3.0

Since the upgrade they detect that temporary files created by programs - specially of Office (Word, Excel, ..) are not deleted after closing the program.

This happens in the clients sharing via the SMB protocol.
No permissions have been changed and it occurs even with domain administrators users.
Client OS is Windows 2008 R2.

> Is there any indication in the 'client' logs that the 'Office' programs attempted to delete the temporary files ... and this failed ?

In the logs nothing appears. This happens in the 2007, 2010 & 2013 versions of Office, in this last version all the patches are up to date.
The temporary file gets created when you open a document and you choose to "save as" and you save it as another name.
When you close the program, the temporary file doesn't disappear and lots of temporary files remain.

Solution

This issue has been fixed in Appliance Firmware Release 2013.1.3.7.

Please upgrade to Appliance Firmware Release 2013.1.3.7.

Recommended actions for the Oracle Support engineer (for releases earlier than 2013.1.3.7):

Set the appliance to limit SMB protocol version to 2.0:
