Configuration via the CLI shows no errors.

Cause

In this case, the errors seemed to be caused by an incompatibility between the customer's browser (Firefox v35.0.1) and the appliance kit software.

This customer was running 2013.06.05.2.9,1-1.1 code, but looking at similar behavior described in bug 20084773 (same Firefox v35.0.1) - "Exception is thrown when unset proxy dn/password of ldap service with firefox" - versions of 2011 may be affected as well.

Solution

In this case, using the Chrome browser worked to configure LDAP in the BUI without error. The above bug also hints that Internet Explorer might work properly as well.
