SymptomsThe following message may be displayed and logged to /var/adm/messages: Dec 25 04:00:42 hostname genunix: [ID 514117 kern.warning] WARNING: Time of Day clock error: reason [XXXX by YYYY]. -- Stopped tracking Time Of Day clock.
This message can be seen on any Solaris platform using NTP. This document is meant to address the issue for Fujitsu M10-x platforms only. Changes
CauseThe error is due to an interface mismatch between Hypervisor and hardware. This means, Solaris wrongly detects a problem in the Time of Day (ToD) hardware, and stops referring to it. Though Solaris stops referring to the ToD, the time of date can still be obtained from the tick register, but with less accuracy than usual. If NTP is used the correct time will be maintained because accuracy will be dependent on NTP. SolutionIf NTP is not used, and accuracy is a priority, then a reboot will cause Solaris to start using the ToD again. This problem is expected to be fixed in XCP2250.
