Applies to:

Sun StorageTek SL500 Modular Library System - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

SLC = Streamline Library Console

Symptoms

SL500 Unable to Delete Partitions via SLC.

Cause

The IDcard flash on the RLM card of the SL500 could be aging or corrupt.

This could cause partitions that are deleted via SLC to not actually be deleted due to an I/O error while accessing the IDcard files.  The partitions appear to be deleted but they are still listed when you go under the "Summary" or "Design" tabs in the Partitioning configuration screens in SLC.

Solution

If this is a one time occurance the customer can simply reboot the library and then they should be able to delete the partitions that they have configured with SLC after the library comes back up to the ready state.

If this is a continous issue then the RLM card should be replaced.

Note:  The FE should try the shutdown command on the library to determine if a blank RLM card or a pre programmed RLM card are needed as a replacement and this shutdown command should be attempted right after a reboot has been performed on the SL500 and it has come up to the ready state.
