Applies to:

Sun StorageTek SL8500 Modular Library System - Version All Versions and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

ENVIRONMENT:
Dual TCP/IP
Port 2A connected to router1 in subnet 1
Port 2B connected to router2 in subnet 2
Default route defined via router2

Symptoms

Library stops communicating when one port is disconnected.

When port 2B goes down (cable disconnected), library-host communication stops.

Cause

No static route defined for port 2A.

No static route defined for port 2B.

Port 2B is communicating via the default route (router2).

Solution

Troubleshooting steps:

  • Check library port settings using the command:
  • network ip address show
  • Check route settings using the command:
  • Network ip route show

Library stops communicating when one port is disconnected

  • Verify routes exist for both ports.
  • Check paths by doing a ‘ping’ from the library to the host from each port.

NOTE: There’s no mechanism to force the ping to go out on a specific port. Do this by physically disconnecting one port.

  • If ping to the host fails, try pinging the router.
  • If ping to router fails, have customer check router address and the router hardware.
  • If no routes exist, check policy routes by issuing the command:
    • network ip policy route show dev 2A
    • network ip policy route show dev 2B
  • Make sure there’s a policy route for each host address and for each port to that host address.
  • If policy routes exist, check policy status to ensure policies are enabled. Issue the command:
    • network ip policy status
