Symptoms

Loss of Functionality

Alarms are not being cleared automatically for STP.

Sequence of Events

Alarms appear and clear on Eventviewer with correct clearance event.
However; recently the alarms are now being cleared via resync only.

Customer Impact

Events cleared as Resync mean that the actual clearance time is not shown but the time when the alarm has been cleared by resync. This creates problems for teams focusing on alarms and their clearance.

What is Working

Alarm appearance and clearance for other STPs is working fine.
Alarm appearance and clearance for problematic several STP via resync is working fine.

What is the expected or acceptable result?

Alarms appear and clear on Eventviewer with correct clearance event.

Cause

The type of terminal on Eagle side for sending alarms should be TYPE=EMSALM with all values set as YES.

If rtrv-trm:trm=xx where xx is the EMSALM Terminal set on EMSALM shows any values as NO, then this needs to be corrected.

If EMSALM terminal is set correctly, then replace the terminal on OCEEMS side and on the Eagle side.

Solution

  1. Identify the EMSALM port set up in OCEEMS:
    OCEEMS GUI >> Tools >> Eagle Discovery
  2. Check if STP is accessible from OCEEMS
  3. Login to The STP
  4. Check EMSALM terminals are set up properly on Eagle side:
    rtrv-trm:trm=xx
    where xx is the EMSALM terminals identified in step 1
  5. Run following commands to correct the settings on EAGLE terminal:
    inh-trm:trm=xx
    chg-trm:trm=xx:type=emsalm:all=yes
    alw-trm:trm=xx
  6. Make sure that output shows YES for all values in the output
  7. Make sure that no other user is connected to these terminals:
    rept-stat-user
  8. Reset the EMSALM terminals on Eagle side:
    inh-trm:trm=xx
    rst-trm:trm=xx
    alw-trm:trm=xx
  9. Check if the alarms start processing in real time to OCEEMS
  10. If alarms are still not moving to OCEEMS, then change the terminal number on OCEEMS side in Eagle Discovery to a different one (e.g. if earlier was 17, then change it to 18) and make the changes on Eagle side for the new terminal.
