Symptoms

Backup software needs many try to mount a cartridge successfully into a tape drive. In the Tivoli Storage Manager, we are seeing the following error. (ANR8855E ACSAPI )

This happen on all the tape drive in the SL8500, no tape stuck or write/read once it get mounted.

Base on the barcode of media and the error interval from the Tivoli, we found the following error in the SL8500 tape library EWI log.

Note : The media involved here are TL4207T1 and TL4213T1, and the error interval is 10 min.

Cause

Device Response Timed out is caused by the loss of communication between right elevator and the Library Controller (HBC Card).  As can be seen from the destination address for the error 1121.

Solution

Have the customer reboot the right Elevator.

Then perform the mount again and observe the result of backup and EWI log for Return Code 1121.
If problem remains, send down FE to verify the right elevator.
