Changes

Recently upgraded to Exadata Storage Version 11.2.3.3.1 or 12.1.1.1.1

Cause

The BIOS updates are not applied.

Solution

The BIOS update is done after a power-off and power-on of the server. The update requires the server to be off for 5 to 10 minutes.  This is automated as part of the patching cycle but sometimes this update can fail if the system is not ready or if the timing is not right. This can happen from time to time and it is usually just a case of re-running the update again.

This is why we ran the "/opt/oracle.cellos/CheckHWnFWProfile -U /opt/oracle.cellos/iso/cellbits" command to trigger another update manually. This time the BIOS was successfully updated so all is now fine from the hardware perspective and nothing further needs to be done here.

Alternatively, if all the other patches appeared to complete, then a hard reset of the server - power off, wait 10 minutes, then power on - is needed to make the BIOS update be applied.
