Symptoms

During Enterprise Configuration Utility (ECU) discovery of a virtual Exalogic with Enhanced PDUs, discovery of the PDU assets fail.  The Enterprise Manager Ops Center (EMOC) job fails the DriverDiscovery and PopulateModel tasks with a message similar to the following (typically one for each PDU):

Discovery driver reported: Power Distribution Unit discovery failed: Could not enable SNMP management on PDU: Failed to set SNMP Management, driver=PDUDriver:Knuerr, at target 10.10.1.201. (10137)

Changes

Enhanced PDUs were added to Exalogic in 2014, typically on newer Exalogic X4-2 and replaced legacy PDUs.  While this will typically be seen on Exalogic X4-2 (or newer systems), customers who upgrade or replace their PDUs may also experience this issue.

Cause

Exalogic software earlier than the April 2015 PSU (2.0.6.2.1) does not contain the updates required to support the Enhanced PDUs for discovery by EMOC.

Solution

Install Exalogic Patch Set Update (PSU) Release 2.0.6.2.1 (Linux - Virtual) for April 2015 (or later) and manually add the PDU assets from EMOC.

After installing the required patch, the easiest method to add the PDU assets is to right-click and re-run the failed PDU jobs from EMOC.

This issue is also resolved by the CUMULATIVE EMOC PATCH WITH SUPPORT FOR EXALOGIC X5-2 (patch 20216854) installed during fresh installations following the ECU process.
