Symptoms

SDP Alert received with 1304 Elevator Hardware failure.

Cause

 Elevator Hardware mechanical issue

Solution

Examine the Elevator/Carriage/Array assembly.  Check for worn belt, delaminating carriage rollers or tube damage.

1. Common failure is for the elevator is 4 cell array becomes fractured or separated at its mount point. This results in intermittent failures if fractured or a dead elevator if the array falls off. In either case there is a spare, unused, 4 cell array that can be used from the turntable in the bottom of the elevator tower in an emergency.

2. Elevator failures can also be caused by a un-cleared reserve from some other robotic failure in the library. Rebooting the elevators from the SLConsole should be attempted to clear the reserve. In the event that the SLC cannot force the boot due to the reserve, the elevators and caps can be rebooted by removing the 2 48 volt supplies for 10 seconds. The original robotic failure needs to be investigated.

3. If rebooting the elevators, open an SLConsole Monitor "Error, Warn, Info" window and observe both the physical movements of the mechanisms and the output of the monitor window. Together this will provide detailed information on what is happening.
