Symptoms

System with ILOM 2.0 may encounter a problem, where a server cannot be powered on and can report errors when gathering outputs from ALOM CMT.
However, there are no faults reported by the Service Processor.

Following symptoms can bee seen when running commands in ALOM CMT:

sc> powercycle -f
Are you sure you want to powercycle the system (y/n)? y
Powering host off at Sat Oct 11 08:05:28 2014
Waiting for host to Power Off; hit any key to abort.
Host failed to poweroff!                                                  <<<===============

 Or errors such as:

sc> showenvironment
capi_get_sensors() failed, status = -1                              <<<===============

 Other commands can fail without reason:

sc> showlocator
Error: No locator indicator                                              <<<===============

Cause

The IPMI VbscIfx loops and processes received data. The module uses ILOM macro OS_TIME_DELAY_HMSM(0, 0, 0, 10) to sleep 10ms, however this macro does not do anything with the ms arg, so it sleep(0) which just loops back.

Solution

Upgrade the firmware, so the ILOM revision is at least 3.0 (FW 7.2.0)

It is always recommended to keep the system up to date, therefore, if possible, please upgrade the firmware to the latest revision.

The roadmap is available here:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/systems/patches/firmware/release-history-jsp-138416.html#T5220

If a cold power cycle and firmware upgrade do not resolve the issue, you might need consider a Motherboard replacement.
