Created from <SR 3-8852831251>

Applies to:

Sun Virtual Library Extension (VLE) - Version 1.0 and later
Sun StorageTek Enterprise Library Software (ELS) - Version 7.2 to 7.2 [Release 7.0]
IBM z/OS on System z

Symptoms

Message SLS6600E is issued for every RTD defined to the VLE:

SLS6600E Communications to vle_name is down and affecting rtd_name

VLE connection is either constantly down or comes up and goes down repeatedly.

Because there is no connection to the VLE, VTCS issues message SLS6699E:

SLS6699E MVC space critical - please add more MVCs to ACS vle_name and reply R to retry

VTCS issues message SLS6884E:

SLS6884E TAPEPLEX:xxxx SMC comms error:Unable to obtain token from SMC

Cause

When HSC/VTCS is active and either SMC has not initialized or has been recycled, the VLE UUI request to SMC fails after application of PTF L1H17XG. Message SLS6884E is issued with reason text "Unable to obtain token from SMC".

Solution

Install L1H18LO for ELS 7.2.  With this PTF applied, the UUI parameters are now recognized and an SMC token obtained. The VLE UUI request succeeds.

Instructions for downloading current maintenance are available in <Document 1016459.1>.
