Symptoms

After upgrading to ODA 12.1.2 version, oakd daemon does not start and all the oakcli commands fails with following error:

Failed to connect to oakd.

The oakd log shows following messages:

Time out: Failed to detect ODADATAFS

Changes

Upgraded Infra and GI to ODA 12.1.2.0.0

Cause

This is due to bug :

Bug 18996124 - LNX64-121-CMT: AFTER GI PATCH, OAKD IN FOREGROUND MODE,FAILED TO CONNECT TO OAKD

which is closed as duplicate of :

BUG 18977793 - LNX64-121-CMT: WARNING IN POSTPATH -V 12.1.2.0.0 --GI (PERMISSION DENIED)

Due to bug 18977793, ODADATAFS is not configured.

Solution

ODADATAFS is configured as post patch steps in GI upgrade.

Please run following to resolve the issue:

As a root user rerun the GI upgrade:

# oakcli update -patch 12.1.2.0.0 --gi

# /opt/oracle/oak/pkgrepos/System/12.1.2.0.0/bin/postpatch -v 12.1.2.0.0 --gi

Note: The example above is for 12.1.2.0.0 -- Match the version.patchset level based on actual version used
oakcli update -patch 12.1.2.x.0 --gi where "x" is the patchset level
Other versions available include 12.1.2.1.0 or 12.1.2.2.0 or 12.1.2.3.0

Once this completes it will give message that oakd started. After this all the commands will work fine.
