Symptoms

Oracle Linux server had an Oracle FC HBA was configured to access an SL500 FC Autochanger and Tape drives, via FC switch.

Notice. This problem could be observed with other operating systems like Solaris or Windows.

The Oracle FC HBA failed , connection to the FC switch was lost and it was replaced.

After FC HBA replacement, the connectivity to the switch is fine again:

Aug 22 14:24:08 server1 kernel: qla2xxx [0000:32:00.0]-505f:0: Link is operational (4 Gbps).

But the FC HBA does not detect / see the SL500 autochanger and/or the tape drives.

The new WWN of the FC HBA has been configured on the FC switch zonning and this is correct.

Cause

The SL500 is partitioned, so it has configured the WWN of the old failed FC HBA.

Solution

1. Check if the SL500 is partitioned or not, see doc:

SL500 - Where to Find Information on Partitioning (Doc ID 1019358.1)

2. If SL500 it is partitioned, then it is required to add / configure the new FC HBA port WWN (initiator) on the partition associated to this server.

From SL500 User Guide, PN96116, in chapter 5 :

"Storage cells and tape drives allocated to a partition can be used only by the hosts
assigned to that partition. Hosts assigned to other partitions cannot access the
contents of these cells and drives. "
--> On page 111: Configure a Host-Partition Connection
"You must perform this procedure in order for the partition to be accessible by the host."
"Each initiator connected to the library must have one library partition assigned to LUN 0"
