Symptoms

Application Getting Media Write-Protect Error When MMounting an Encrypted Tape.

Commvault fails with error: "Media side mounted is write protected"

Cause

This error could indicate that the drive where the encrypted tape is being mounted to is not encryption-enabled.

Solution

If the drive is known to be encrypted-enable, verify if there is a problem with the drive's encryption card device (i.e., Dione card for HP LTOs; Bellisaurus card for IBM LTOs, etc.)
If the drive is not communicating with its encryption card, the drive is no longer encryption-enabled as far as the application is concerned and the application will disallow writing onto the tape.

The application SCSI error during the mount operation would show ASC = 0x20. In CommVault, an error like this will be logged: "ASQ 20/00 DTLPWROMAEBKVF INVALID COMMAND OPERATION CODE"

Resolve the drive hardware issues and re-enroll the drive in OKM.
