Symptoms

Access to Configuration Management Interface (CMI), netboss menu and applications failed with one of the below error messages:-

Connection to the Oracle Database failed... Please contact CMI Administrator 

There are no views assigned and you are not allowed to view all alerts. Check your database settings. Shutting down.

Could not connect to the database. Error Code : -12500

Cause

The database is up and running. But there is connection issue between the application and database causing the application failed to access and read information from the database.

Solution

Restart application and database process:-

1. Stop the netboss application:-
  $ sudo /etc/init.d/netboss stop

2. Wait till application completely stop before stopping the database:-
  $ sudo /etc/init.d/oracle stop

3. Wait till the database completely stop. (note: server reboot is required if database shutdown failed.)

4. Start up the database and application. (skip this step if server rebooted at step 3 above.)
  $ sudo /etc/init.d/oracle start
  $ sudo /etc/init.d/netboss start
