Applies to:

Sun StorageTek VSM5 System - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

VSM5 IP replication performance over WAN drops when enabling Cisco ESP-100 encryption.  The performance drop can be from ~35mb/s to 5 mb/s.

Cause

The problem is due to the Cisco ESP-100 router module incorrectly identifying checksums of 0x0000 or 0xffff as invalid causing those packets to be discarded.  This packet loss causes a significant loss of replication performance.

Solution

Cisco firmware will need to be upgraded as below:

ASR 1006 Cisco IOS Software Version 15.2(4)S5, RELEASE SOFTWARE , XE Version: 03.07.05.S
