Symptoms

When attempting to upgrade controller firmware on a Sun Storage 2500 Array from 06.x to 07.x using the Sun Storagetek 25xx Series Firmware Upgrade Utility, the verification process reports the following:

Storage partitions database corruption: There is a storage partitions mapping database error on controller X. You cannot upgrade the storage array until the problem is resolved. Contact your technical support representative to resolve this issue.

Cause

The upgrade utility has identified a condition that might prevent the upgrade from completing successfully.

Solution

To clear this condition, reset each controller before running the upgrade utility. This step is described in the "Sun StorageTek 2500 Series Array Firmware Upgrade Guide" under chapter "Resetting Each Controller Using CAM" page 7.
