Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit)

Symptoms

After an XSCF reset or an XCP flashupdate the PCI Epansion Unit will no longer be accessible by the ioxadm or replacefru commands.

The showhardconf and showstatus commands will not display the correct information

Example 1:

XSCF> ioxadm list
PCIBOX Link
-      BB#00-PCI#00  ( Note: the begining "-" should be the last 4 digits of the expansion box serial number )

Example 2:

XSCF> showstatus
 BB#00 Status:Normal;
   PCI#0 Status:Normal;
    PCIBOX# Status:Normal; ( Note: The PCIBOX# should have the last four digits of the serial # appended PCIBOX#5005 )
*     PSU#1 Status:Faulted

Because the PCI-BOX identifier is missing clearstatus will also not work.

Changes

Cause

Issue is caused by a bug in XCP2090, 2091, 2092, 2210.

An XSCF reset will occur when the following commands are executed flashupdate, setdate, rebootxscf, switchscf, or during a process down / watchdog timeout recovery.

Solution

This issue is fixed in XCP versions newer than 2210 Please apply the latest XCP release.  See doc 1554086.1

How to replace a PSU or FAN on the PCI Expansion Box if the XCP can not be immediately updated:

On the M10-1

  • The system will need to be powered off to replace the component.

On the M10-4/4S

  • Power-off and on the PPAR that includes PCI-BOX.
    or
  • Detach and attach the LINK card by PCI Hot Plug. (No need to physically remove and install the LINK card.)
  • The "ioxadm locator" command will not work and the Expansion Box will need to be identified by the external label.

How to recover when this problem happens:

On the M10-1

  • Power off and on the affected PPAR.

On the M10-4/4S

  • Power-off and on the PPAR that includes PCI Expansion Box.
    or
  • Detach and attach the LINK card by PCI Hot Plug. (No need to physically remove and install the LINK card.)
