Applies to:

StorageTek Virtual Storage Manager System 6 (VSM6) - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Sun Virtual Library Extension (VLE) - Version 1.0 to 1.4 [Release 1.0]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

It is discovered that a JBOD disk drive (HDD) or SIM card firmware is higher than baseline code.

Changes

There has been a capacity upgrade or replacement of a JBOD disk drive or SIM card.

Cause

The new hardware has arrived with firmware that is higher than baseline for the code being run.

Solution

There is no support for downgrading JBOD disk drive or SIM card firmware in the VSM6 or VLE products.

If the VSM6 or VLE is not running current code then check to see if current code uses firmware that is equal to or higher than the new hardware.  If that is the case then make arrangements to upgrade to current code and to upgrade all JBOD disk drives and/or SIM cards to current firmware.

If current code does not contain JBOD disk drive and/or SIM card firmware that is equal or higher than the new hardware then open a BugDB case to engineering.  Engineering will then advise as to what if any action needs to be taken.

WARNING:

 - DO NOT use a PC based version of CAM when servicing the VSM6 or VLE.

 - DO NOT download a new version of CAM and attempt to install it on either the VSM6 or VLE product.

 - This appliance does not support the independant upgrade of any of its software components.

 - The only supported method of upgrading CAM is via a complete code upgrade on the VSM6 or VLE.
