Significant number of SL3000 rotational CAPs are being returned for stripped gears, see attachment.

Symptoms

SL8500 - SL300 CAP Assembly Gears Will Strip

Cause

If the CAP is rotating open or close and additional rotational force is applied manually in an attempt to move the CAP faster, it will strip the top gear on the CAP assembly requiring replacement of the CAP Assembly. While the CAP is in the open or closed state, there is a locking mechanism that prevents movement.

Solution

Do not manually attempt to speed up the CAP rotation while the CAP is in the process of opening or closing.
