Symptoms

Bad block(event id 7) occurred with all tape drives(LTO and T10K) in SL8500 library.

Cause

Event ID 7: Signifies bad blocks. This could be the result of a outdated tape device driver issue, faulty media, or dirty read/write heads on the tape drive.

Solution

1. HBA code upgrade. Driver upgrade.

- This action reduced the frequency of the issue.

2. Make sure the tape drives are with latest code version.

3. Tape drive replacement.

- Perform assessment test on the drives & capture drive dumps to confirm the drive health. Replace the drives failing the test.
