Pillar Axiom 600 Storage System - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Information in this document applies to any platform.
If you attempt to view the Pilots on an R5.3 system with a R5.4 GUI, it won’t display them.

You also cannot view an R5.4 Pilot with an R5.3 GUI

The reason is that the reply from the Axiom to the pilot view request contains different information across the two releases that made them incompatible.

Symptoms

You cannot view Pilots in GUI

Cause

The cause is detailed in R5.4 Release Notes:

3.7 New Features in the Pillar Axiom GUI

3.7.1 Pilot Network Connectivity

The new Monitor > Pilots > Actions > View Pilot menu action provides information concerning network connectivity for a selected Pilot control unit (CU). This information indicates the status of the Ethernet, management, serial, and service ports for that Pilot CU.

When a network connection for a Pilot CU is lost, the Pillar Axiom system generates an alert and a system event. For example, if a serial port (used for serviceability) or a private management interface (PMI) Ethernet port fails, the system generates an appropriate system alert so an administrator can correct the lost connection.

Solution

Below is the snippet about the GUI not being able to display Pilots:

After the Pilot connection becomes available during the update, you need to download and install the 5.4.x GUI client. To download the 5.4.x GUI client, use the http:// AxiomIP_or _Hostname URL. This URL identifies the public IP address or the name of your Axiom system.

Note:  Additional features in release 5.4.x might hang the 5.3 and older GUI clients if you attempt to view the status of the Pilot.
