Changes

Replacing a disk can cause this alert to be generated.

Cause

The root cause of the alert is that a disk has been removed which the system interprets as a misconfigured configuration.

It is entirely possible that the disk removal was due to maintenance action done in another SR or simply system testing.

If that is the case, and you are convinced the alert is benign, then mark the problem as repaired and ignore the SR (it will close on it's own).

NOTE: You may also see this alert where the JBOD contains devices with an unsupported (lower) revision of firmware.
For example, disk shelf containing 200GB SSDs added to a 7420 with an Appliance Release version lower than 2013.1.2.9 (the first to support these devices).

NOTE ALSO: You may also see this alert where the Logzilla configuration within a JBOD is incorrect - DE2 trays should have either 24 HDDs (fully populated),
or 20 HDDs in slots 0-20 and 1 to 4 Logzilla SSDs in slots 20-23, in increasing order.

Solution

In some cases the disk is indeed faulty and needs to be replaced.

In the case of the alert seen above - under the Symptoms section - check the state of HDD 5 in chassis 1137FMD00X. If is shows Absent or Removed, please take the following action:

  1. Check to see whether or not the disk is physically removed from the system. If it is, either insert it back into the system or replace it, depending on why it was removed.
  2. If it is not physically removed from the system, mark the problem repaired under Maintenance, Problems.
  3. If Problem persists check Maintenance > Hardware and see if the disk is still not showing or marked Absent or Removed.
  4. If the problem persists contact Oracle Support to get the disk replaced.
