Cause

Each CAM version comes bundled with specific versions of array controller firmware for Sun Storage Arrays. These are called CAM baseline firmware. The alarm with event code xx.75.42 indicates a mismatch between CAM baseline firmware and the current array controller firmware.

Scenario 1 indicates that the CAM baseline version is higher than the controller firmware running on the array. This usually happens when CAM software is upgraded, but the controller firmware is not upgraded yet.

Scenario 2 indicates that the CAM baseline version is lower than the controller firmware running on the array. This usually happens if a new array is registered in an existing CAM instance.

CAUTION: For Scenario 2, do not click "Install baseline firmware". This may downgrade array firmware to an older version, the array's data and configuration may be lost.

Similar alarms occur for array disk drives as well, as described in <Document 1338039.1> Sun Storage Common Array Manager reports the alarm "Tray.xx.Drive.yy is at revision "B" baseline version is "A".

Solution

This alarm does not require immediate response, as this is just an indication of a firmware mismatch and does not cause any impact to the system.

To resolve this alarm:

For Scenario 1:

Upgrade the controller firmware to match the baseline firmware.

Before you follow the procedure below, make sure the array is not in a degraded state due to another alarm. If it is degraded due to another alarm, that should be resolved first. Firmware upgrades should not be carried out when other alarms have placed the array in a degraded state.

  1. Log in to the management software as documented in the Sun StorageTek Common Array Manager Software Installation Guide for your version of CAM on the Disk Device Software Documentation page.
  2. From the Java Web Console page, click Sun Storage Common Array Manager.
  3. From the Storage System Summary page, select the array for which the firmware needs to be installed/upgraded.
  4. Click the Install Firmware Baseline button, and follow the prompts.
In case of online firmware upgrade with Solaris data servers attached to the array, ensure the settings as recommended in <Document 1569976.1> Recommended Setting for the "fcp_offline_delay" Variable When Upgrading a Sun Storage 6000, 2500 or 2500-M2 Controller Firmware before you proceed with an online upgrade.

For Scenario 2:

Upgrade CAM.

To identify the current version of CAM, refer to <Document 1011180.1> How to Determine the Version of Sun Storage Common Array Manager (CAM).

Download and install the latest CAM revision, refer to  <Document 1296274.1> How to Download Common Array Manager (CAM) Software and Patches.

With the latest version of CAM, if it leads to Scenario 1, upgrade the controller firmware to match the baseline firmware.
