Applies to:

Sun StorageTek VSM5 System - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

 VSM5 IP communications fail.

This results in C-Links and/or VLE vRTDs to go offline and to not be recoverable.

Base files from the VSM5 show a series of FSC D136 errors (IP_RECEIVED_INVALID_MSG).

Changes

The customer's network support group has introduced a network scan.  The most commonly known version of this scan is named: Qualys.

Cause

The network scan is sending sequences or commands to the IFF card ports that they cannot handle.

Solution

Have the customer exclude the VSM5 IP addresses from the network scan.

Recovery from the problems the network scan causes for the VSM5 will need to be either of the following:

 - GFR NO-replace (with a re-seat of the card) of each fenced IFF card.  (Enabling DIAG.NOT will expedite the GFR action.)
 - A power cycle of the VSM5.
