Sun StorageTek SL3000 Modular Library System - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

The Masstore app does not have the capability of exporting tapes, so I have to do that task using SLConsole and the RcvrMove tool. The support rep sent me a range of tapes to export (we're converting from LTO4 tapes to LTO5, and the support company is transferring data from one to the other). I performed the export (around 100 tapes) and then found that a third of the tapes that were exported were from the BackupExec partition and should not have been. When I attempted to change the CAP assignment so BackupExec could re-import them, I was unable to.

Symptoms

Customer unable to allocate/partition CAP to SCSI1

CAP will not release reserve

The CAP retained a SCSI reservation even after repeated efforts to release it.

Hostname: not_applicable
Product Type: SL3000
Summary:Error from device.

Error from device.
List of errors found: 3324

Cause

Running down level SL Console.

Solution

Webex'd and deleted the nvram.db file... Rebooted the library and was still unable to allocate the cap to the SCSI1 partition...
In looking through the partition settings on SLC we noticed that there was no module map.  Checked and found the customer was running SLC version 5.0... Recommended SLC version for 3.60 is 5.60.
After re-installing new version of SLC, customer is now able to allocate the cap to SCSI1 partition.
