Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

When attempting to discover the Exadata rack, the Infiniband (IB) targets are discovered with the wrong host names.

For example the resulting names are truncated:

exadbprod01sw#-ib
exadbprod01sw#-ib
exadbprod02sw#-ib
exadbprod02sw#-ib

When the actual target names should be:

exadbprod01sw1-ibb01
exadbprod01sw1-iba01
exadbprod01sw1-ibs01
exadbprod01sw2-ibb01
exadbprod01sw2-iba01
exadbprod01sw2-ibs01

Cause

Documentation bug for IB:  Bug 18109470 - Incorrect Node Description info in Installation Guide

All host names must be under 17 characters in length, and this is now stated in the IB documentation.

Solution

Change the names of the IB switches to be under 17 characters using <Document 1464355.1> How To Change Host Name On Infiniband Switches.

Then rediscover the rack.
