Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

When using *TWO* 10Gb Ethernet PCIe ExpressModule (PEM's) with an x6270 (non-M2) *OR* x6270M2 blade running Microsoft Windows x64 (64-bit) 2008 R2, a flood of correctable WHEA 17 events may be seen in the Windows Event logs :

Event ID: 17

"A corrected hardware error has occurred.

Component: PCI Express Root Port
Error Source: Advanced Error Reporting (PCI Express)

Bus:Device:Function: 0x0:0x3:0x0
Vendor ID:Device ID: 0x8086:0x340a
Class Code: 0x30400 "

Cause

These correctable WHEA 17 events are due to a PCIe Gen2 compatibility issue with Dual 10Gb Ethernet ExpressModule caused by the following bugs depending on the blade platform :

BUG 17469168 - X6270 with 2 x dual 10Gb Niantic PEMs reports flood of WHEA 17 events

BUG 17950800 - X6270 M2 with 2 x dual 10Gb Niantic PEMs reports flood of WHEA 17 events

Solution

The following firmware updates have now been released to fix these issues  :

http://www.oracleimg.com/technetwork/systems/patches/firmware/release-history-jsp-138416.html

X6270     : Patch 18438211 - SW 2.5.2 firmware bundle (ILOM 3.0.16.17.b r87418 / BIOS 07.07.01.04)

X6270M2 : Patch 18774100 - SW 1.4.2 firmware bundle (ILOM 3.0.16.11.i r87860 / BIOS 08.07.04.00)

Once the firmware has been updated the BIOS settings will need to be changed to PCIe Gen1 for the PCIe slots containing the Dual 10Gb Ethernet PEM's :

PEM0 PCI Express SPEED:        [Gen 1]
PEM1 PCI Express SPEED:        [Gen 1]
