Symptoms

Upgrading to D/H02.18 microcode on the VSM4, VSM5 or VSM5C products can result in a significant degradation of recall performance for recalls being performed via a Brocade switch.

Normal recall rates can be in the 18MB/s range but this problem can result in recall rates dropping to as low as about 1.9MB/s.

Changes

An upgrade to D/H02.18 code has been done.

Cause

Older levels of Brocade firmware have an identified bug in the Brocade ‘Tape Pipelining’ feature that results in degraded legacy VSM recall performance.  This is addressed in more recent Brocade firmware.

Solution

When using Brocade switches, Brocade FOS Firmware v7.2.0d or higher is now a prerequisite to upgrading to D/H02.18 microcode.
