StorageTek SL150 Modular Tape Library - Version All Versions and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

StorageTek SL150 : New Installation , library is not booting, observing amber LEDs on Robot, tape drives and PSUs.

At present when the library boots, it starts the Linux boot sequence but never boots up.  The robotic arm is now sitting in the bottom module so unable to check to see if there are any seating issues or anything like that.

Current state showing the LEDs on the library and the boot screen where it stops.

Changes

SL150 failed to initialize, stopped at "Bringing up interface eth2"

SL150 history:
Customer successfully setup SL150, but failed with robotic error and failed module #2 power supply.
FE replace robot and power supply. Original robot has been returned.
SL150 failed to initialize, stopped at "Bringing up interface eth2"
FE taken following troubleshooting steps but failed to remedy this issue:
 * Removed drives and rebooted.
 * Disconnected usb cable and power off module #2.
 * Disconnected ethernet cable and rebooted.
 * Attempted factory reset.

Cause

Removed the USB stick from KLM, library will now boot.
FE was able to reset to factory, then ran init setup wizard.

Library rebooted with Op Panel active, but no configuration.

A USB stick is causing the issue.  When USB stick replaced from working library to this library its booting.  USB stick contains serial number of the original library as it was delivered from manufactory and sold as that unit. No alteration were permitted without engineering's input.

Solution

FE ordered a replacement base unit, removed the USB card and inserted it into the customer’s faulty library.  The library has come up cleanly and is not reporting any errors or codes.

FE managed to get the library working and configured correctly with the a new USB stick from an ordered base unit.

The library has also picked up the correct serial number of the chassis.

In this situation FE ordered the base chassis P/N : 7021880 [C], but did not replaced the chassis.
He replaced only USB stick and its working.
(From new chassis KLM card he removed the USB stick and replaced.)
