Symptoms

Oracle Exalytics Release 1 Patchset (PS4) 4 has been applied for configuring Infiniband connectivity to Exadata Server on an Exalytics X3-4 Virtualized Machine.
Oracle VM Server and VM guests are configured as per instructions in Install guide:

Installation and Administration Guide for Oracle Exalytics In-Memory Machine (Exalytics Software Release 1.0.0.4 for Exalytics X2-4 and X3-4)
Section 3 Configuring Exalytics Machine for Virtualization

Exadata server that is connected over infiniband can be pinged successfully from the VM Servers created on Exalytics machine.
However, Exadata Server cannot be pinged from any of the VM guests on the Exalytics machines.

Cause

Infiniband firmware version on Exadata machine is outdated.
Oracle Product Management recommends having the latest version of the firmware installed for the Infiniband switches.

Solution

To resolve this problem, you must upgrade the Infiniband Switch firmware on the Exadata machine from 1.3.3-2 to 2.1.3-4, (or latest available).

After upgrade the Exalytics OVM guests will be able to successfully ping the Exadata machine.
