Symptoms

"Update failed: media ID PH0932 in database has media type 'HCART3', which differs from media ID PH0932 in the robot which is (according to the media type returned from the robot, adjusted by media type mappings) projected to have a media type of 'HCART2'"

"Update failed: media ID AF0001 in database has media type 'HCART3', which differs from media ID AF0001 in the robot which is (according to the media type returned from the robot, adjusted by media type mappings) projected to have a media type of 'HCART2'"

Netbackup interface with ACSLS posting incorrect data.

LTO6 tape label issue with Symantec.

NetBackup doesn’t have their ACSLS LTO 6 media type defined and it comes up as “UNKNOWN”.

Changes

Adding LTO-6 drives to operating system that is running under Symantec NetBackup.

Cause

This problem exists because of NetBackup issues in handling of LTO5 and LTO6 cartridges.

The problem resides in NetBackup which is a Semantic problem.

This is the issue that Symantec has not updated the HCART media definitions in NetBackup to be able to define ALL of the available LTO cartridge models. Anytime NBU request to scan the Barcode of an LTO6 it comes back with unknown.

Solution

Have the customer acquire the upgrade to Netbackup from Semantic as Netbackup is their product.

We have had 2 similar issues in SR 3-7740843251 and 3-7502612171, in which the customer contacted Semantic for a code upgrade to resolve their issue.

From Kevin @ Symantec:

“I was able to find the support ticket and have left a comment stating this is a known issue and provided the work around. Below is a copy of my comment in the SYM support ticket. Code needs to be added for NB to recognize the LTO-2.5 tapes. The NB target version is 7.5.0.8 and 7.6.0.1.
I am a Software Engineer with the NB HCL group. Oracle has pinged me about this support ticket. The fact that NB currently does not recognize LTO6 tape "LTO-2.5 " is a known issue. Please refer to eTrack 3262215 for more information. A valid work around is to assign the tape media type manually to HCART3 or "1/2 cartridge tape 3" in the Advanced Robot Inventory Options window”
