Symptoms

During diagnosis of an XSCF panic, which will be reported in the error logs as shown:

Date: Mar 21 06:21:11 BST 2014     Code: 40000000-c201faff-011d001100000000
Status: Information            Occurred: Mar 21 06:21:11.921 BST 2014
    FRU: /XSCFU,/FIRMWARE
    Msg: XSCF panic detected
    Diagnostic Code:

    UUID: c2f88101-5c87-4c9e-9214-c2235b696dee MSG-ID: SCF-8006-YS

As of XCP1091, the following messages might be noted in the XSCF Linux messages files, located in spos_logs/@var@log@messages in the XSCF snapshot:

Apr 16 12:31:47 (none) kernel: Serial: 8250/16550 driver [W] An interrupt occurs frequently on a serial port0.
Apr 16 12:31:47 (none) last message repeated 11 times

Changes

Cause

This is an indication that an Ethernet LAN cable has been inadvertently connected to the serial port of the XSCF, as opposed to the XSCF-LAN ports.

The XSCF serial port is an RS-232C connection using a RJ45 connector , as detailed in the SPARC Enterprise Mx000 Servers XSCF User's Guide.
The same issue could be seen if the correct serial port cable is inadvertently connected to an Ethernet switch rather than a PC, laptop, ASCI terminal or terminal server.

This is one of many possible causes of FMA code SCF-8006-YS.

Important Note : since this change was introduced in 1091, the following message can be observed on the M8000/M9000 systems.
kernel: Serial: 8250/16550 driver [W] An interrupt occurs frequently on a serial port1.

The port 1 connects the 2 XSCFUs and several occurences of this message can be reported as a consequence of a high load on the communication serial path between the 2 XSCFUs.
As long as there is no evidence that these messages are directly related to a WDT event, those messages can be ignored.

Solution

Always ensure only serial cables are inserted into the XSCF Serial Port.
