Applies to:

Oracle Switch ES1-24 - Version All Versions and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Failure to change root-user's default password in ILOM via the web interface or the CLI.

Trying to add users also results in error.

1) Attempting to change the default password for root-user (the only user in ILOM) results in an error message: "Error: Invalid credentials"

2) Trying to add a new user results in error message: "Error: Transport error - check errno for transport error"

NOTE: after attempting either of the above operations, the switch may hang (unresponsive) -- and ILOM snapshots may be corrupt/incomplete, even after the switch is power-cycled.

3) After power-cycle of the switch to regain administrative access: login to the ILOM / CLI as root-user, and the session hangs upon issuing this command:

  -> cd /SP/users

4) the "/SP/users" section of the snapshot data is missing.

I had the customer upgrade FW from v1.3.1.1 to v1.3.1.3 but no change in the problem.

Cause

It seems the the password file may have been corrupted,  possibly due to powering off the switch while the file was being updated.

Solution

1) power-cycle the switch

2) upgrade or re-install the firmware, and choose the option: "PreserveConfig=No"
