Symptoms

We have received several requests for information on whether any proactive steps are required, e.g. rejoining the AD domain, switching to workgroup mode, restarting service when the following operations are performed:

  • Software upgrade
  • Takeover/failback/power off
  • Domain Administrator password change

Cause

Incorrect information.

Solution

No proactive steps are required in any of the above cases.

None of the above actions should result in a loss of connectivity to the AD domain.

However, note that during an upgrade or takeover, if a stripped head is left without network interfaces (which goes against best practices), it will be unable to contact the domain until failback is completed.
