Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 1638927.1 : Sun Storage Common Array Manager (CAM) : Array Registration May Fail in Version 6.9.0.20 on Solaris
Created from <SR 3-8716742921> Applies to:Sun Storage 2530 Array - Version Not Applicable and laterSun Storage 2530-M2 Array - Version Not Applicable and later Sun Storage 2510 Array - Version Not Applicable and later Sun Storage Common Array Manager (CAM) - Version 6.9 and later Sun Storage 2540 Array - Version Not Applicable and later Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit) Oracle Solaris on x86-64 (64-bit) SymptomsThis document describes a possible problem in Sun Storage Common Array Manager (CAM) version 6.9.0.20 on Solaris that can prevent registration of arrays. CAM 6.9.0.20 involves the installation of CAM 6.9 and then the addition of either <Patch 147416-02> (Solaris SPARC) or <Patch 147419-02> (Solaris x86). Array registration in CAM fails, even though the array IP addresses have been verified and out-of-band (network) communication to both controllers has been validated as per steps B and C of <Document 1008327.1> How to validate Sun Storage 6000, 2500 and Flexline Array Controller Out of Band Communication. Registration via CLI using either the sscs add registeredarray or sscs register storage-system commands returns: The IP address you entered is not valid, or not a device type supported by the application.
If the IP address you entered is a proxy host address, then please include -q option. Registration via GUI returns "No items found." The CAM fms log (/var/opt/SUNWsefms/log/fms.0, for example) includes entries such as: Mar 18, 2014 4:45:49 PM com.sun.netstorage.fm.util.LocalizedString getValueFromOSGiBundle
WARNING: Missing string for ERROR: Device type <host|2540m2|6180|..> not supported. Cause
[ ] 1 - Typical
The program will be installed with the suggested configuration. Recommended for most users. [X] 2 - Custom The program will be installed with the features you choose. Recommended for advanced users.
Apart from being unable to discover new devices, such a CAM installation will likely suffer a loss of communication with any already registered devices. See <Document 1598709.1> Sun Storage Common Array Manager (CAM): Applying Patch 147416-02/147419-02 May Cause Alarm "Lost out-of-band communication". SolutionFully uninstall the CAM software: # /var/opt/CommonArrayManager/Host_Software_6.9.0.16/bin/uninstall -f
Then either: 1. (Recommended) Reinstall CAM 6.9.0 using the "Typical" option # <extraction dir>/HostSoftwareCD_6.9.0.16/RunMe.bin -c => choose "Typical"
and then install <Patch 147416-02> or <Patch 147419-02>. or: 2. Reinstall CAM 6.9.0 with the "Custom" option # <extraction dir>/HostSoftwareCD_6.9.0.16/RunMe.bin -c => choose "Custom"
and run one of the following commands to create the missing file left out by the bug in the install process: # touch /var/sadm/install/se6000/requiredScripts/.lsi (for RAID arrays) or
# touch /var/sadm/install/se6000/requiredScripts/.jbod (for JBODs) and then install <Patch 147416-02> or <Patch 147419-02>.
