Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 1638460.1 : SL150 - Support of POE (Power Over Ethernet) Network Switches with the StorageTek SL150 Modular Tape Library
In this Document
Applies to:StorageTek SL150 Modular Tape Library - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]Information in this document applies to any platform. SymptomsThe Ethernet Ports can become unresponsive on the SL150 library and the customer won't have Web GUI access to the SL150 library to get logs or perform tasks. The SL150 network port LEDs could have no link or activity lights even though a live Ethernet network cable is plugged into the SL150. Also the SL150 network port LEDs could have the link and activity lights on all of the time even though there is no Ethernet network cable plugged into the SL150. ChangesConnected the SL150 to a POE (Power Over Ethernet) Network switch that isn't IEEE certified. CausePOE network switches that aren't IEEE certified can give too much current over the cable and can overload the Ethernet connections on the SL150 library. SolutionDue to issues that have been seen while connecting our SL150 libraries to some POE (Power Over Ethernet) Network switches we cannot support connecting our SL150 libraries to any POE switch that is not IEEE certified. If this occurs the customer will need a new robot for their SL150 and they can no longer connect the SL150 library to their non IEEE certified POE Network switch.
