Symptoms

When attempting to create a Blackout on a DB node that is part of an Exadata Rack, the ILOM target for a different node may be listed as a dependent target.

Cause

This is by design.  The 12c Console assigns 2 agents per Exadata target (where an Exadata target can be a storage cell, ILOM, pdu ...etc).

For example on a four node cluster:

The db01 agent owns ILOM01 and ILOM03.
The db03 agent owns ILOM02 and ILOM04.

The db03 agent is not assigned to monitor ILOM03.  Therefore when you blackout the host db03, the ILOMs for db02 and db04 are dependent targets and also blacked out.

Solution

For easier future blackout management, you can select the Primary agent that monitors each ILOM target to match up with the target name.

For example, in a two node environment, db01 agent owns both ILOMs.  If we attempt to blackout node 1, then ILOM02 is listed as a dependent target:

 Dependent Targets List for Blackout

We can change this by navigating to the Exadata Database Machine home page in EM, then select Monitoring Agents from the menu:

 Navigate to Monitoring Agents

Now you can assign targets per agents as shown in the following screen:

Change the Primary agent

And you see the backup agent also changes:

Primary and Backup agents are changed

Remember you only are presented with 2 agents to monitor a given target, so you may not be able to assign all ILOM targets to one agent or each ILOM target to its respective agent depending on the screen options.
