Symptoms

Affected systems are:
- Sun SPARC Enterprise T5120 Server
- Sun SPARC Enterprise T5220 Server
- Sun SPARC Enterprise T5140 Server
- Sun SPARC Enterprise T5240 Server
- Sun SPARC Enterprise T5440 Server
- Sun Blade T6320 Server Module
- Sun Blade T6340 Server Module
- Sun Netra T5220 Server
- Sun Netra T5440 Server
- Sun Netra T6340 Server Module

When this issue occur, you will see "Hot removal of HDDx" or "/HDDx/PRSNT :Device Absent" events in the output of the command "showlogs -v" on the system controller.

These messages occur:
- on any HDD, it doesn't matter if a HDD is installed or not in the HDD slot
- upon every poweron of the system
- during a reset of the system controller

and hereby an example:

The Disk Status in the output of the command "showenvironment" on the system controller doesn't show any faults:

This issue can occur with System Firmware 7.3.0 or later.

Cause

It has been sporadically observed, that versions of System Firmware below 7.4.7 might incorrectly handle the signals that they receive from the hardware components resulting in false "Removal" or "Absence" Events.

This issue has been resolved in System Firmware 7.4.7 or later, which can be downloaded via the following links:
