Symptoms

We may observe the USB thumbdrive used as a bootable recovery device is not present. Following is observed with imageinfo output:

imageinfo

Kernel version: 2.6.32-400.11.1.el5uek #1 SMP Thu Nov 22 03:29:09 PST 2012 x86_64
Cell version: OSS_11.2.3.2.1_LINUX.X64_130109
Cell rpm version: cell-11.2.3.2.1_LINUX.X64_130109-1

Active image version: 11.2.3.2.1.130109
Active image activated: 2014-01-31 10:37:29 +0000
Active image status: success
Active system partition on device: /dev/md5
Active software partition on device: /dev/md7

In partition rollback: Impossible

[WARNING] No suitable USB devices found to use as Oracle Exadata Cell startup boot device
Cell boot usb partition: not found <----- Not Expected

----------------------------------------------------------
Example of working server and expected results:
----------------------------------------------------------

# lsscsi | egrep -i "Unigen|Kingston"
[1:0:0:0] disk ORACLE UNIGEN-UFD PMAP /dev/sdm

Cell boot usb partition: /dev/sdm1 <<<------------ Expected
Cell boot usb version: 11.2.3.2.1.130109 <<<-------------- Expected

Cause

The internal USB of the cell is inaccessible due to faulty thumbdrive.

Running imageinfo on the cell, it wont return with the information for the USB,

Running lsscsi, check if it returns info for the internal USB, something
like [1:0:0:0] disk Unigen PSA4000

Solution

If there is no output for lsscsi command for the internal USB, then it needs to be investigated further by HW team. A HW sr needs to be opened and FE needs to be sent to investigate and possibly replace the thumbdrive.
