Applies to:

Sun StorageTek VSM System - Version 4 to 5C [Release 4.0 to 5.0]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

When a vary path command, introduced in ELS7.1, is issued to a shared RTD the consequence can be that the entire RTD (not just a path) can be taken offline from all attached VTSS units.

The shared RTD can go offline in response to the vary path command even when in use by another VTSS and this can in turn result in job abends associated to the other VTSS.

Changes

Possible recent upgrade to ELS7.1 which introduces the vary path command for shared RTDs.

Cause

The VTSS running code levels below D02.17.15.00 or H02.17.15.00 code will intrepret the vary path command as a vary command for the device (not as a vary path).

Solution

D02.17.15.00 and H02.17.15.00 and higher levels of code will not put a shared RTD offline in response to a vary path command.  Upgrading to these or higher levels of code will correct this issue.
