Applies to:

Sun StorageTek VSM System - Version 4 to 5C [Release 4.0 to 5.0]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Symptoms vary based on multiple factors.  Known symptoms at this time are:

  1. Repeating FSC 3BBB warm boots (fsc3bbb).
  2. IEC151I A13-10 Abends
  3. IEC149I 813-04 Abends
  4. IEC147I 613-08 Abends

These errors are seen on only the first (low order) VTD (Virtual Tape Drive) within the VSM.

Example: If the VSM VTD address range is 400 to 43F then this problem will only manifest on VTD address 400.

Changes

Recent upgrade to D02.17.15.00 or H02.17.15.00 microcode.

Cause

There is a microcode fault within the code levels noted above (D/H02/17/15/00) that causes a problem in handling FSF (Fowward Space File) operations.

This problem results in VTV (Virtual Tape Volume) positioning errors which in turn can lead to any of the symptoms noted above.

Solution

The work-around for this problem is to vary the first (low order) VTD within the subsystem offline.

The fix for this problem will be included in D/H02.18 microcode.

D/H02.18 code is expected to be released within the first calendar quarter of 2014.
