Symptoms

When updating the firmware using sysfwdownload the system displays the following:

sysfwdownload: download failure - status = 2

Cause

If the service processor has been up a long time, communication between it and Solaris can be hung. This is fixed in later versions of the firmware but obviously upgrading is an issue here.

Solution

To resolve this log into the ILOM and reset the SP. This will not cause a reset of Solaris.

-> reset /SP
