Applies to:

Sun StorageTek 9840D Tape Drive - Version Not Applicable and later
Sun StorageTek SL8500 Modular Library System - Version All Versions and later
IBM z/OS on System z
IBM z/VM on System z

Symptoms

Invoked DDR swap after FSC_517x with 9840D during load and it succeeds if library load retries fail.  If library load retires succeed, SLS0107D would be seen due to dismount timeout.

FSC517x, 517x

Changes

No change has been applied.

Cause

After FSC_517X (Tilt Check error:

1) Drive sends unit check (IRQ) with FSC_517x to the host.

2) Host prints sense bytes (IRQ) in syslog and invokes DDR swap.

3) Library attempts to load retries.

4) Host requested dismount with non force due to DDR swap.

If library load retry succeeds:

5) Cart is loaded and get Ready_U.

6) After 5 minutes (actually 4 minutes and 46 seconds). "drive is loaded"  SLS0107D is seen due to dismount timeout.

If library load retries fail:

7) Cart is NOT loaded (unloaded).

8) Library can pick up cart for dismount and move to swap drive.  DDR swap succeeds.

Solution

Library load retry and invok DDR swap with FSC_517x are expected as design.

SLS0107D

Dismount of volser from {drive XXXX|driveid AA:LL:PP:NN} - drive has loaded cartridge; reply Dismount, Retry or Ignore (D/R/I)

Explanation: A request was made to dismount a volume. However, the volume has not been rewound and unloaded.

System Action: The dismount waits for you to reply either "D" (dismount), "R" (retry), or "I" (ignore), or for the drive to be rewound and unloaded.

User Response: Wait for the rewind and unload to complete or reply with one of the following:

D: If the volume is to be rewound and unloaded.

R: If the dismount is to be retried without forcing the rewind.

I : If the request is to be ignored.
